Posted By: Alex_StrikerSo, while we work on scheduling the next event (it IS coming, I promise you that) a thought dawned on me.
Why not do a League of Legends tournament? It doesn't cost us anything to rent servers, we have a TeamSpeak and Vent server, and it would help get some good competition going leading into the next event (which we hope will feature LoL as one of our tournaments).
However, before we go ahead with this (winning team will get RP, or Steam gift certs, or something) I wanted to gauge the interest in a tournament like this. It would probably span a week or two to get all the matches in, and would be (most likely) in a 5v5 format. Please reply to this thread if you or people you know would be interested and if you think you'll be able to throw a team together for this. |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerPlenty of new games are out since our last event, with more on the way. We're looking at having a better internet connection at the next event which will expand some of our options when it comes to the games play at the LAN.
What are some of new and upcoming titles that you want to see? |

Fear not, we hope to storm back this year with an event or two... |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerWhile we wait for the next LAN to get scheduled, might as well get a start on playing and fragging your fellow MWLers with the first (of many) new FPSs coming out this fall/winter.
So, add me as MWL_Striker and Zelinc if you want the rare chance to play with/against the MWL admins. |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerHey guys. As many of you could have guessed (with no news coming regarding the LAN and it being only a month away) that we are temporarily putting MWL14 on hiatus while we (I) sort some things out that prevent the staff (primarily myself) from putting my full effort into the LAN.
In our downtime, we'll be coming up with ways to make the LAN far superior to what it has been in the past, and hopefully the short break will give some time for some great LAN games to be released as well.
Stay tuned for all the latest news and developments as we prep for the rescheduling of MWL14.
*edit*
I hope to have everything back and operational early 2012. |

He will be gone for a couple months practicing his boss craft! We will miss him, but he will be back.
Good luck and safe travels Alex! |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerWell, it's been over a day since MWL13 ended...we had about 90 gamers show up for 24 hours of pretty solid gaming.
Overall, only 2 tournaments weren't played (TF2 and Wii Bowling) though Starcraft 2 was an abridged tournament and CS: Source was delayed by several hours due to major issues with Steam.
In what is likely the final Call of Duty 4 tournament to be held at an MWL event, The Angry Birds emerged victorious over Knife and Zulu after many hours of tough play over 3 different game types and maps.
After that, we held the first raffle, group picture, and our first (in what will likely be a new tradition) Mountain Dew speed drinking contest. In a literal photo finish we managed to have a winner (who unfortunately I don't have the name of at the moment).
Following some delays with Steam we were finally able to get the CS: Source tournament off and running. 7 teams entered, and with the 50 percent added by the LAN we had a prize pool of $1050. When all was said and done, Panic! walked away with the top prize of $700, with Nothing to Prove taking second.
While all the Source madness chugged along, a secondary tournament arranged by Zap was played, as several teams engaged in Left Dead 2 versus action. Despite hunters, spitters, and tanks galore, Zap's team emerged victorious, taking home a bundle of swag for their efforts.
Even though it started late, 4 players entered in the Starcraft 2 tournament, which turned into a 4 way FFA. Early rushes and constantly changing base positions made for an interesting fight, with KlavoHunter eventually emerging victorious.
We've learned a lot from this event. Several changes will be made to our format, and we will also be overhauling our website and the intranet site in the near future.
Also, we're making a few staff changes, to be announced shortly.
And of course a big thanks to our sponsors: Cooler Master, Thermaltake, Silver Stone, GameSkulls, Slanket, Velocity Micro, CPU Magazine, In Win, eDimensional, Rude Gameware, and Xoxide!
We'll be updating the site with photos and news in the next few days. The next big LAN is in November. We'll be having a small event this summer as well. |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerThanks to everyone who came to MWL13! While a bit rocky with the schedule and Steam issues at times, it still was a good LAN with solid gaming had by all.
The MWL staff would like to thank all of you who attended, the volunteers who helped set up and tear down, and our many sponsors for helping make thing a great event.
A more in-depth wrap up and photos will be posted by the end of the week. |
