Posted By: Alex_StrikerWell, we had about 40 show up for this LAN, leaving this the smallest event since MWL...I want to say 2. Between about 6 other midwest events and Father's Day weekend our attendance was a bit down.
Regardless, it was a fun event with multiple tournaments played and plenty of fun and prizes for all.
The opening event, Left 4 Dead 2 saw 3 teams enter in a round robin format. Animal Force, Green Earth, and Rule 4 - Doubletap engaged in 2 furious matches on Dead Center and Dark Carnival, however Green Earth swept the competition handing them the first tournament.
Generals - Zero Hour was next, with Zap, KlavoHunter, and myh3adhur7s took each other on in a 3 way FFA set of matches. Zap, fresh off of his win with Green Earth did not lose any momentum and cleanly swept the competition on his way to the Zero Hour title.
Late night set in at this point and it was mostly open gaming and passed out LANers until Saturday late morning when more gamers arrived setting up for a strong UT2K4 boiloff. This tournament saw 10 players enter, and when all was said and done Jebsauce stood victorious over the pack, having thoroughly dominated the competition and never placing anything less than first throughout all 9 rounds and picking up a GameSkull headset for his efforts.
Right as UT concluded the Smash Brothers tournament kicked off. Four teams entered this round robin event, with Animal Force picking up their first MWL SSB Championship (having previously taken Network of Gamers). Top Tier finished second, Bro Force third, and Internet Explorers last.
Shortly after that we launched our first ever team dodgeball tournament. While this was a bit disorganized much hilarity ensued as LANers dipped, ducked, dodged, dove, slid, and were headshotted in this surprisingly competitive event. In the end the Green Earth team won, taking GameSkull t-shirts as their prizes.
The CS: Source tournament began with 2 teams for a $300 prize pot ($200 from entries, $100 from the LAN) with the winner taking it all. In a best of the 5 set the Jebsauce's... teams stood victorious over team LOLz taking them in 3 maps (de_train, de_dust2, and de_inferno) and winning 48 rounds to 13.
Call of Duty started concurrently with Source, with 2 teams entering that tournament as well. Playing a best of 5 format as well the Green Earth team was unable to repeat their previous success, falling to their opponent decisively in Search and Destroy, Headquarters, and Sabotage matches.
The final tournament of the night, Starcraft, started shortly after CoD finished. Seven teams entered, but after 12 matches Roie once again stood victorious, repeating his MWL11 championship.
Overall, it was a fun LAN, and while it would have been great to pack the place the 40 gamers in attendance had an awesome time and there was plenty of varied, competitive gaming going on the entire event. As always, we're glad to take feedback on this LAN that we can apply to future events.
Speaking of, if you haven't seen, MWL13 is scheduled for January 22nd, 2011. With it we're returning to our familiar 24 hour format and schedule...more info to come soon... |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerWe're here live at the LAN. Small crowd so far, which is slightly expected with the severe thunderstorm that just rolled through the area.
The internet is around 2 to 3 times its normal speed though! |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerSo, are you considering attending MWL12 but don't want to pay for the day you won't be there (likely Friday)?
Well, have we got good news for you! You can register for the LAN for the at-the-door $30 cost of a normal 24 hour MWL event! However, the catch is you can only check in for the LAN at 10AM or later on Saturday the 19th.
Additionally, our prepay system cannot be altered for more than one option, so if you want to prepay this way (still $30) you'll have to send your payment to midwestlan@gmail.com and then send an e-mail to that address as well with your username and the PayPal Transaction #ID.
In prize news, we are doing a registration drive! Everyone who attends the LAN will get a free mystery game! Provided by our buddy Zap, these are legit promo copies of some great games!
Also, we have another sponsor! GameSkulls are sending us one of their awesome helmets and some t-shirts for the LAN. |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerThe seating chart, as always, is up.
PM me or e-mail me to reserve a seat!
There are only the usual 100 seats on the chart, if registration explodes in the next week we'll adjust for the full 125.
Also, Patriot Memory is joining us as a sponsor! They'll be sending a bunch of swag for us to give out at the LAN.
And remember, the first 100 on the list get a free BFG t-shirt!
ADDITIONALLY! We need some volunteers to help us set up before the LAN kicks off! We'll be starting at some point late Friday (the day of the LAN) morning and hopefully will be done well before registration opens. Those that help set up will get free pizza on opening night and can set up well before everyone else arrives. |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerGeneral Tournament Rules
-All matches must begin no later then 10 minutes past the start time posted/announced during the LAN. An announcement will be made as to what time the first round of matches are to begin for each tournament.
-If a match does NOT start within the 10 minutes, a protest may be brought forward to the tournament admin (who is generally myself) and a forfeit may be awarded or a time extension may be granted (or the match schedule changed). Basically, the only valid reason for not starting a match on time is if something goes wrong on our end, or if our network hardware is not working. It is NOT a valid reason if it is an issue with your computer (unless it's basically on fire), or if you do not have the game installed/patched by the time the tournament begins. We've got a lot of tournaments, and we don't want to be three hours behind.
-If you are playing in one tournament, do not play in/register in a tournament that will be happening at the exact same time.
Though if it's an issue where Steam/Valve releases a patch the day of the LAN, then we'll reevaluate. But otherwise, and I will say this a thousand times from now until the LAN - HAVE ALL THE GAMES INSTALLED, PATCHED, AND WORKING CORRECTLY BY THE LAN.
-We reserve the right to change the rules/formats as needed at the event.
-All admin rulings are FINAL.
This will be a constantly updated thread as I get the rules/maps for the tournaments together.

| Posted By: Alex_StrikerI'll have most, if not all, of the tournament rules and maplists done by the end of this week. Generally we'll try to follow league (ESEA > TWL > other) rules/configs, though for some older games we'll follow our own sets. |

Posted By: Alex_StrikerBFG is joining us as a sponsor for this LAN! They'll be sending out a ton of t-shirts (enough for the first 100 on registration list), some of those rockets, and posters (and maybe some other random swag if we get lucky?).
Be sure to head their way to show your thanks! And maybe to grab a new graphics card before the LAN too... |
